Dr. Kevin McCormick, President and Vice-Chancellor of Huntington University, is a recipient of the Senate of Canada 150 Medal. Dr. McCormick was presented with the prestigious award on November 29, 2017 in Ottawa by The Honourable Senator Jim Munson. The medals are being awarded to Canadians or permanent residents actively involved in their communities who, through generosity, dedication, volunteerism and hard work, make their hometowns, communities, regions, provinces or territories a better place to live.

We are proud to have him at the helm of our institution, leading through action, as he highlights the value of civic leadership, collaborative partnerships and academic excellence.”
About the Senate 150th Anniversary Medal
The Senate 150th Anniversary Medal commemorates the first time senators came to Ottawa to sit in Parliament, on November 6, 1867. The front of the medal features the Senate’s badge and the reverse side depicts the Senate Chamber. A space is provided to inscribe the name of the recipient. The medal was designed by Lt.-Col. Carl Gauthier, Director of Honours & Recognition at the Department of National Defence, the organization responsible for much of the work that goes into honouring the extraordinary men and women of the Canadian Armed Forces. Senators each received 12 medals to award.
About Dr. Kevin McCormick
Dr. Kevin McCormick is the President and Vice-Chancellor of Huntington University in Greater Sudbury. He is also the Honorary Lieutenant Colonel of the Irish Regiment of Canada – second Battalion, a Patron of St. John Ambulance – Ontario Council, and also devotes much of his time and talent to support numerous organizations at the local, provincial and national levels.
Kevin’s inspirational volunteerism spans four decades and focuses on a myriad of issues/causes ranging from education, humanitarian relief, immigration and refugee services, military, race relations, hospice care, homelessness, youth mentorship, and more. Kevin also has a rich history of supporting the Canadian Forces members, Veterans and their families through innovative programs and partnerships, including Project Honour and Preserve – an international project he initiated and personally funds.
In recognition of his leadership, and the global reputation he has developed, Kevin has been named as the recipient of numerous honours and awards in Canada, Finland, Thailand, United Kingdom, United States and Italy. Recent honours include being named a Knight, First Class, of the Order of the White Rose of Finland (2017), and a National Commendation from the Minister of Veterans Affairs (2016). In 2010, Kevin also became one of few Canadians to be named a Member of the Most Honourable Order of the Crown of Thailand, by the King, for his contributions to international education and humanitarianism.
