Since June 2016 Patricia Mills has been proudly serving as Huntington University’s newest Chancellor. She is also the first woman in the university’s 56-year history to hold the ceremonial role. On April 13, 2017, her official installation ceremony helped to kick off the university’s 2017 Spring Convocation.
“I am extremely proud to don the Chancellor’s robe and be affiliated with such an outstanding institution of higher learning,” said Mills. “I would like to thank the Huntington University Board of Regents for this remarkable opportunity. It is also a great honour to play a role in guiding the vision of this institution alongside such community leaders as Dr. Kevin McCormick, President and Vice-Chancellor, and Mary-Liz Warwick, Board Chair.”
“Patricia Mills is among Greater Sudbury’s most recognized community builders,” said Mary-Liz Warwick, Chair of the Huntington University Board of Regents. “She has also been a steadfast supporter of Huntington University for many years, and will continue to serve as a great ambassador during the remainder of her two-year tenure as Chancellor.”
Among her first official Convocation duties as Chancellor, Mills assisted in the bestowment of Honorary Doctorates of Sacred Letters upon James Marchbank, the former CEO of Science North, and Richard Yallowega, founding partner of the firm Yallowega Bélanger Salach Architecture. Both community builders were presented with Huntington University’s highest honour for achievement in recognition of contributions which have resulted in the betterment of Greater Sudbury and Northern Ontario.
“I am deeply grateful to Huntington University for this great honour. I was surprised and delighted when I was told of it. I feel I should share it with all of the staff and volunteers of Science North with whom I worked for almost three decades,” said James Marchbank. “I also share it with my family and many leaders in Sudbury who offered advice and support over the years.”
“Receiving this recognition from Huntington University is truly an honour. To be in the company of the past recipients is humbling,” said Richard Yallowega. “It’s important that you contribute to the community not only in your business ventures but in your private life. I made the choice to return to Sudbury to practice architecture in the North. I am proud to be a Sudburian and proud of my affiliation to Huntington University. I would also like to acknowledge the support of my family who have been instrumental in my success.”
