Huntington University and GSCC Challenge You To Give #Time4Community

In recognition of Giving Tuesday, Huntington University and the Greater Sudbury Chamber of Commerce (GSCC) are partnering once again and encouraging Greater Sudbury Chamber of Commerce member businesses and the community at large to give the gift of time as part of the 2018 #Time4Community Giving Tuesday Campaign.

#Time4Community is an initiative conceived by Huntington University and Greater Sudbury Chamber of Commerce to encourage the community and chamber member businesses to volunteer their time in support of 10 local recipient organizations: Blue Saints Drum and Bugle Corps, Canadian Cancer Society, Easter Seals, Health Sciences North Foundation, Human League Association, March of Dimes, Northern Initiative for Social Action (NISA), Northern Lights Festival Boréal, Sudbury Food Bank and the Sudbury Symphony Orchestra.

“Many small groups, which achieve amazing results in support of various initiatives in our community, regularly struggle to find volunteers to assist with vital fundraising,” said Dr. Kevin McCormick, President and Vice-Chancellor of Huntington University. “In some cases, a donation of time and talent can be equally as valuable, and in turn could produce positive effects for the individual/business making the donation. I am proud that this year we are expanding our reach through this initiative, and can invite people to volunteer their time in support of one or more of the 10 local recipient organizations on our list.”

“The Greater Sudbury Chamber of Commerce has approximately 900 members, many of whom are small business owners and not-for-profit organizations,” said Debbi Nicholson, President and CEO of the Greater Sudbury Chamber of Commerce. “For those members, this event and community campaign aims to showcase that there is more to civic leadership and engagement than simply writing a cheque. Volunteerism, whether by an individual on their own, or as a business team, can drive positive change in our community and in turn raise community profile, engage employees, and lead to some very innovative partnerships.”

Individuals and local businesses wanting to get involved have until December 23, 2018 to commit volunteer hours to the #Time4Community Giving Tuesday Campaign. For those interested in pledging hours, which will be volunteered over the next 12 months in support of local not-for-profit/charitable Greater Sudbury Chamber of Commerce member organizations, please visit sudburychamber.ca by December 23, 2018, sign-up and indicate how many hours you can offer, and which organization(s) you wish to support.

Thank you to our Huntington University students, and community members, for already committing 74 hours to this initiative!

Huntington University and the Greater Sudbury Chamber of Commerce also celebrated Giving Tuesday today with a breakfast event featuring an interactive panel discussion to explore innovative strategies that will inspire fundraising and community giving initiatives. Thank you to guest panelists, Mary-Liz Warwick, Huntington University Board Chair, Michael Cullen, Executive Director of the United Way Centraide North East Ontario, Mellaney Dahl, Sudbury Food Bank Board President, and Dr. Rayudu Koka, Campaign Chair for the March of Dimes Non-Profit Housing Corporation’s Moving A-Head Campaign, for volunteering their time to lead the discussion.
